Born in Italy in 1854 to a family that Giuseppe Verdi called "a constellation of stars," Alfredo Barili immigrated to New York as a child and moved to Atlanta in 1880 where he worked as a composer, pianist, conductor, teacher, entrepreneur and administrator.
